Všichni zájemci jsou srdečně zváni na další setkání nepravidelného semináře ÚFaRu, na němž vystoupí dr. Laura Fearnley, s přednáškou nazvanou „Standing to Praise: When Should We Praise Others?“.  Laura Fearnley působí od září 2023 na ÚFaRu jako post-doktorská badatelka v projektu PRIMUS s názvem „Role-Ethics in Ancient and Contemporary Philosophy“, který kombinuje výzkum současné etiky se studiem starověkých filozofických textů.

Přednáška Laury Fearnley proběhne v úterý 19. 3. 2024 od 19h05 do 20h30 (místnost 225V) v anglickém jazyce. Níže přikládám abstrakt její přednášky:

For many, the mere fact that someone is blameworthy it does not follow that just anyone is therefore well-positioned to blame. Blame is a morally appropriate response only when the blamer has standing. Recently there’s been an explosion of work on the conditions one must meet in order to have standing to blame, however, there’s been surprisingly little said about the conditions for standing to praise. In this talk, I will try to rectify this lacuna. Firstly, I will motivate the need for an analysis of standing to praise by introducing several cases in which praising can be wrongful. After introducing these cases, I will outline my own account of moral standing by identifying the conditions one needs to meet in order to praise others.
