Abstrakt: In this paper I address the question whether Plotinus may count as an idealist. I come to a positive answer, with some reservations. In particular I claim that his position may be compared with contemporary supervenience theories about the mental, theories that are supposed to be versions of materialism while holding that there are non-material properties that supervene on matter. Plotinus holds the reverse view: in a sense matter and bodies supervene on something mental. After presenting the thesis itself I discuss several objections that may be raised against it.
